So, I made a few avatars for the contest Evil Greg Guy (or is it Evil Guy Greg? =P), and the following remarks were made. I felt like debating it, but also didn't think that that particular thread was the correct spot, considering it was in the graphics section, and there's already this snazzy forum set up. (Note that I haven't the foggiest idea how to use the "Quote" whatsit, so I'm just going to be using good ole C&P)

Why are you posting images? I don't see your name on the roster.
Not to be rude, but seriously.

lol - shut up Flask. tongue.gif
Telling him where to sign up would be much more helpful.
Flask - Today, 10:27 PM
He can sign up if he wants to, but until then he shouldn't be posting images.

I thought you would be happy that someone new is interested in helping out in the GT.. Try and be a lil more welcoming. tongue.gif
Something along the lines of "Nice pictures. If you're interested in becoming a member of the GT, post here. Then we can make you official" would have been much better.

Once again, he can apply at any time, but he should not be posting images as it stands.

I never knew there was rule saying people had to be members of the GT to post pictures here.. (link to post with that rule please?) If this is the case, I think it should be changed. I might talk to Queue1 about it later and see what he thinks.

So you're saying anyone should be allowed to make images for requesters when those requesters asked the GT to do it? How is that fair to us?
Endquote.
Now, my question is, why can't someone who isn't registered for the GT post images? Even though I was pretty sure this wasn't a request thread, but a contest (one that I was hoping to win, as I could use a lil extra cash, considering my nation makes approximately 3,000 a day). Assuming it WAS a request thread, however, I still don't see why it isn't fair. If someone wants to make something, as a gift or just in a flash of creativity, they shouldn't not be able to just because they haven't signed up (yay double negative!). And if they are only interested in doing one thing, I don't think they should be bound to be in the GT just for that one siggy.
But wait, you say, the GT people have committed themselves to making graphics for requesters, and it's not very courteous for someone to just jump in and make a siggy or banner for a request, especially if someone has already put in time and effort to make a very nice looking sig. True, and if done in this spirit, I agree that it's a totally jerk move. But I doubt that the majority of people who'd post a gift siggy would be doing it just to spite the GT people...not to mention the fact that most people don't seem too troubled with having multiple banners in their sigs...
Anyways, that's just what I was thinking. Feel free to tear my argument to tiny, inconsequential shreds...or just let the thread fester and die...whichever you prefer.
Cheers!

If someone posts a topic in the Graphix Team forum, asking for an image, it is our territory. If someone PMs you and says "Hey, I want you to make me an image", then go right ahead and make that image.
That's all I'll say right now.
-
Actually, I'll take this from the other topic.
If anyone can post images for the GT, there's no point in having a GT, or having sign-ups, or having a roster, or any of this. We would just have a big board where everyone is requesting and filling requests. Yeah, that would really lead to order and quality images.[/sarcasm]
The beauty of it is, anyone can sign up at any time. But at least we maintain organization and a level of quality. Without a team structure like this, things would be a mess.
Also, I shouldn't even have to make this clear, but all the Graphix Team members joined here to help make good images for everyone. Posting images here and not being a member is like saying to us "Hey, screw you!".

Order of business number one: I currently RP on a board where everyone is required to have a nice looking, matching avatar and signature that fits specific requirements that has no GT. The process is essentially similar to what the GT is, except that there is no GT. There's a single thread where you go and request your sig and avie, saying that you want this content, that color, and this other text, and then anyone can make an avie and sig for the requester. It works perfectly well, and thus far, the avatars are all excellent. There's no chaos, and no disorganization. The link to the board is in my intro post, although you won't be able to see siggies and avies until you're a registered member, and something tells me that might be a bit too much effort for the casual curiosity-satisfier.
Secondly, I definitely see what you're saying. However, I don't think that if you particularly like someone's request you should have to sign up with the GT just to post the image. I also don't think that PMing it to someone is really an acceptable alternative, since if you're proud of your work, you're going to want to put it out there and say, Hey, I did this! And while someone having it in their siggy, even with credit to you, is nice, it's not really the same as putting it out there yourself.
Perhaps some sort of compromise, such as a sub-section of the Graphics section that's "Non-Graphics Team Works" would work? That way, it's not encroaching on the GT thread, and it's also letting potential Photoshop whizzes work their non-codified magic. Of course, then there'd have to be all sorts of other rules for that forum, and questions to be debated, so maybe that'd just be opening up a can of worms, but whatever.

Just join the Graphix Team if you want to make images for people. It's as simple as that.
-
But the thing with that is that I don't want to have to make stuff for people...more likely than not, I wouldn't have posted more images regardless.
And if the GT isn't required to make things for people, then what's the point of it? If anything, it looks like all it does is slow things down by bureaucratizing everything.
I mean, if someone posts an image for a request, they're not required to take it, are they? I feel like quality controls itself in that way. So then what's the point of the GT?
-
Look, friend, if you want to fill requests, you join. If you don't want to, you don't join. If you want to fill requests, but don't want to join, then you can't fill requests. It sounds very black and white, but that's what it is.
The point of the GT is to have a place where people can post image requests and have them filled by willing individuals who are experienced at making images. We work as a team to push a good final product. If I can't or won't make a good picture, then someone else who can and will takes it.
If you join the team to make one image, and then go inactive, you're still part of the team until we deem you gone. You don't have to make images.
-
Alright, alright.
I still stand by my opinion that the GT is unnecessary, but perhaps I'm just being ox headed, and if I'm not, it seems changing your opinion is an equally futile task.
As a continuation of the question, why did you not like my posting images in the contest? It made no mention of the contest being limited to strictly to the GT, and as it wasn't a request thread, I don't see why it should be an issue.
-
Remy, I as I see it, you were totally fine doing what you were doing.
There was no indication anywhere that you couldn't and I believe that Queue1 (leader of the GT) will encourage your posts.

You were totally in the right doing what you did.

You're talking to one of the oldest and most stubborn members of the RIA and the Graphix Team, so...damn right I'm going to stand by my opinions. The GT has been around a good long time, and it'll stay around even if I'm the last member in it.
But anyways, it was in our forum, requesting an image. If he had posted it in the HQ, it would have been open to everyone's input.

Arsenal 10, I hate to be mean, but...
No.

lol at that! So sig'd.
Anyway, back on point. Things change. I believe it is time for the GT to change.

Dude, really, please just stop.

Ok, I'll leave it at that.

Thank you.
