I get nervous when I don't have much room on my harddrive, especially since its only 70 GB. I like to have as much space on it as possible but I seemed to have lost track of what I had. I removed some stuff and now have 18 GB of space free (I removed some big shit and I didn't even uninstall anything yet)
I have a question about getting rid of some programs I don't want
wtf is "Bonjour"? It doesn't take up toooo much room on my harddrive but i don't even know what it is >_>
And should I get rid of PC doctor? I don't use it ever
and if i get rid of InterVideo WinDVD will i never be able to watch DVDs ever again, even on something like Windows Media Player?
-
Bonjour is obviously French so it's probably totally useless
Windows Media Player plays whatever is in your CD drive so yes, it will be able to play your DVDs, I think
-
none of that was very reassuring pielord
-
I have a laptop and I have 100 gigabytes, which is more than you do. =D
It's also as much space as my school's entire computer system. On a laptop. Damn governor Paulenty, his lack of educational funding, and his difficult-to-spell name.
-
if you dont use it then yes get rid of PC doctor, I actually never saw a need for it when i had a crappy computer and got rid of it.
http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/ (http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/)
that'll make sure you can play just about anything on WMP.
-
so i can get rid of intervideo winDVD then?
-
its just cause it brings up this freaky as shit alert telling me pretty much that i'll never be able to play a DVD again if i uninstall it and it scares the shit out of me lol
-
screen shit that bitch then just in case.
-
screen shit?
if you want the error, its this:
If you uninstall WinDVD, other application might have problem to playback DVD.
So we do not recommend to uninstall WinDVD. Do you want to uninstall WinDVD?
I swear to fucking God I did not change that a single bit, the grammar was actually that bad.
-
Don't listen to it I play everything on WMP
-
yeah i know but i never used it before and it says its used "rarely" rather than "never" so I'm afraid if i uninstall it that I won't even be able to play DVDs on WMP where i usually do
-
hmm
i think i have a spare 20 gig hard drive lying around
you want it if i can find it?
-
just uninstall it. 1 of my friends had that or something like that installed on his laptop and all it did was just freak out on him when he uninstalled it, after that everything was fine.
-
PC doctor and intervideo are uninstalled
what about 'Bonjour'?
-
just what pielord said, its some french thing that you dont need so uninstall it. just in case though, check it out and see what it is first before uninstalling it.
-
its got something to do with the internet and it isnt actually french, its just retarded and has a misleading name, so i'll just leave it there
-
Is there a file called 'about bonjour'? Cos it actually sounds useful:
Bonjour, also known as zero-configuration networking, enables automatic discovery of computers, devices, and services on IP networks. Bonjour uses industry standard IP protocols to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers.
-
Bonjour is obviously French so it's probably totally useless

yeah theres "about bonjour" and thats where i found out it had something to do with the internetz but i didn't feel like reading all those big words

You computer nubs. Best ways to free up space:
1: Download Auslogics Disk Defrag. Run it, it will defrag your HDD and get back some space.
2: Hit Start, then Run. Type in Disk Cleanup. Run it, then click the top right tab and check the delete "shadow copy/backup" button. It will delete all but the latest system restore points, freeing up to... 12GB at one time for your HDD. System Restore is useless.
3: Download CCleaner. Tiny little program, it deletes temp files, cookies and broken registry keys. Drastically improves computer speed.
4: Off topic but get a good anti virus for the hell of it. Avast or Avira Antivir are good free ones. AVG sucks.
-
Anyway bonjour is an apple program, don't know why you have it. <_< I know its automatically installed with iTunes. Just get rid of it.
-
ditch the video program, and dont worry about windows media player. google VLC media player. Its free and simple to use

lol @ #4, you already suggested Avira Antivir to me before, and i have it and it's saved my ass plenty of times. like, PLENTY, idunno what the fuck was going on but some bad shit was bringin up alot of alarms lately >_>
i'll try those other 3 things but for #2, that running disc cleanup thing doesnt seem to work >_>
EDIT: I searched it rather than ran it, then i found it and ran it from there and it worked

AVG is Intrusive, sucks, and takes a lot of resources.
