If you haven't seen it, see it. It's an amazing documentary that proves just how ridiculous organized religion really is and how scary the world is becoming as we vote more and more religious leaders into power. Oh, and discuss.

=O
I'll download it maybe.

<_<
I'm kinda poor right now, so unless someone pays for me, I'm not gonna see it in theaters.

Never heard of that movie before but it sounds very interesting. I believe most organized religions (at the highest levels) were made to control peoples minds and keep them in check. I'm sure all of the priests, rabbis, ministers, etc are all pure of heart but they were all started to control the people. Christianity is probably the most guilty of all and I say that as someone who went to Catholic school for 11 years.

You should definitely see it. I'm going again tonight, the theater in my town grew some balls and is playing it now so I'm taking two more of my friends. The last five minutes of the movie really opens your eyes to how religion is fucking up our world because we're voting people in who take religion way too far. Like the lady that said she'd vote for Bush because he's a Christian. Just because he's Christian doesn't mean he was the best choice. >_>;
I don't hate religion. I don't care if that's what people want to do to waste their life. But when it starts putting me in danger then i get a little pissed. Like Bill points out, the Muslims (Even the Prophet Mohammed said himself) say that their Messiah won't return until the world is purged of Jews.

I'll find it on the intertubes.

First of all it's easy to pick on religion, and in fact it's just stupid to, but yet everybody who does insists that they're a defiant, cunning, genius that just made it out of the temple of doom. Another first of all is that most people's belief today comes from indoctrination, and not from their intellectual knowledge. I myself have never looked into one single religion, but what I understand about Christianity, from my history book the number one villain of religions according to you really saw its peak in the earlier ages where it was actually spread by people's own moving actions of compassion. Today like all religions it's spread by indoctrination, and along with that persuasion techniques of fear for this this day most people believe in a religion so that they won't burn in hell, and go to heaven it's dead. Aint that nice? Fucking jackasses.
From my own personal observations of Christianity, it's about nothing more than having faith that there is a God, and living fearlessly with the faith: what you do in God, you trust it's being done for a reason that's divine. That helps out when you're walking into a fire. Being a good personal with a moral conscience is emphasized by jesus, and he doesn't have any super powers, and not one fucking power - jesus is a normal jackass lyke u n me, but the only thing was that he was just strong with the faith - THE FORCE. What's coo is that it's kind of just like being strong wit the force if you're a real Christian, but be certain no that a real thing Christian is rare, and they're practically non-existent. Those cocksuckers that claim that their part of the Christian army, today are probably going to burn in hell, but of course if one were to really looked into hell they'll see that it's ore likely a metaphor for the way you feel, and the world around you after do shitty things.
Sundays are suppose to be spent with your families, and friends. I got a D in confirmation class, and my teacher was a dumb as hell judgmental bitch.
Bottom line, the worse thing is that you'll live living fearlessly to live, and on top of that with a moral conscience? If anything I think harry potter sucks much worse, and MTV toooooooooo Controlling people do not want this, and a lot of the reality from our pasts is vastly hidden from us.

haven't seen the movie it'll probably be good but on the other hand, most atheists i've encountered are ignorant hypocritical spiteful jackasses.
religion wasn't created to control people's minds. it evolved as a means of control, for those who desired to control or needed control or wanted to be controlled. it is perverted in this sense in any religion. most philosophies about a person's worth and about the value of their choices, can be twisted into a form of control. in fact anytime someone lies they are trying to control what you know. but religion also serves other purposes besides control, depending on the person using it. the same is true of atheism. most atheisms are using atheism the same way religious are using religion - selfishly and to wound others while fighting their own internal psychological problems.
obviously i have a problem with -most- atheists. and i met some atheists who say that *true* atheists are agnostic and dont state things they can't know such as that god does not exist. but you know what, that's the same thing christians say, if they dont believe in what another christian is doing they say he's not a *true* christian. so in the end all these titles we use tend to be pointless because they are referring to a status which is constantly redefined by the kinds of people who assumes that title.
but i have a problem with most religious people too. for the same reason. they are not intellectually honest with themselves. they use their intellect to defend themselves from people who tried to control them. but they don't go on and balance their own internal dogma. thus they just turn into a counterpart to some controlling asshole, and they continue the cycle which creates controlling assholes and reactionairy assholes. they stop evolving and are satisfied with being just a little more logical in one area, instead of always learning, which is the best way. yey agnosticism well actually, yey informal agnosticism. yey admitting it when you dont know something and cant prove it.

Wow. This all has just reminded me of the song innuendo.

rant
You would love this movie then. A lot of people misunderstand it and state that Bill Maher is just trying to bash religion. He isn't. He's promoting doubt. Religion gives you certainty. If you're good you'll certainly go to Heaven. If your bad you'll certainly go to Hell. He wants people to doubt that. He also doesn't want religious zealots or irrational people in positions of high power. He doesn't care if you believe in Jesus and God or whatever no matter how silly it sounds. He just wants the truth. He also points how awful close we are to self-fulfilling the end of the Bible by blowing each other up because of beliefs.
When watching the movie you have to keep in mind, however, that Bill Maher is a comedian. He does make jokes and says things in a sarcastic way at times. I don't think he's trying to be arrogant. Like when he's talking to the Christian and the Christian says "God is never too busy to not listen to you." and Bill responds "Do you believe in Santa?" The Christian of course says no and Bill Maher says "Of course! One guy flying around the world in one night giving people gifts, that's crazy! But one guy listening to the whole world murmuring at him at once makes a lot of sense."

the concept of a god or a godlike phenomena is much less inconsistent than the concept of santa claus.
there are some things one can be certain of... as much as one can be certain. that absolute truth exists, that chaos is contained within order, that 2 = 2, that a god or something like it is possible. however that is a far cry from telling people what they do or dont do is right or wrong.
ultimately however i think everyone is bound to know the truth, i.e. everyone will go to whatever the real 'heaven' ends up being. something good.
so in light of this i dont think certainty is wrong, but it's only right if you have an independent mind and you are always willing to learn. i guess that is uncertainty but with faith that some day there will be certainty.
