I agree that it'd be useless, it's just a beautiful language.  I mean, I'm a junior in high school who takes Latin and ancient Greek.  I don't really care about utility.

I am damn lucky.  I think I'm gonna try and teach myself German, also for utility.  If I decide that's too hard, I'll do Italian for the sake of being able to say I did it.  Italian would probably be the language closest to Latin.
