Title: District 9
Post by: Thunder Strike on August 14, 2009, 10:03:58 pm
So I saw District 9 yesterday. Best movie I have seen in a long time.

It had a good story line and because I knew nothing of it before hand it was full of twist and turns. It had awesome graphics and the details on the aliens were stunning. I also thought it was a good commentary on human nature and power.

I don't know if this will offend many people as well but I found it refreshing to watch a non-US based movie that was free of all the Hollywood garbage.

Anyway go and watch it.

Damn straight you'd better go.

Also make sure you watch it in the cinema, I have a feeling it won't be half as good watching it on the small screen.

I hate you, I saw it with a gorilla and a midget.

Well not really but with two friends and one is hairy and the other is short.

that's not offensive. hollywood is full of lowest-common-denominator oxshit made by hacks like michael bay & george lucas. foreign competition might remind hwood to lern2write/act/direct

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It has flaws, but it's one of those movies where you really don't dwell too much on them.

I saw district 9 last week and I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time as well.  Right from the beginning I knew it was going to be awesome, just because of how it came at you from a different angle.  I love special effects, which this had, but the story line was what kept me really into the movie.  The aliens were awesome, the main character was awesome, the whole movie just kicked ass.  I heard a lot of good things about this movie b4 I saw it, and it lived up to all the hype.

Yeah, very cool for real.

I just wished it would have stayed with the documentary style at the beginning rather than the actionyness later.

to be on the flip side, I thought it was one of the worst sci fi movies i've seen in recent memory.

the camera never stayed still like it was strapped to someones ankle. i thought the main actor absolutely sucked, and it was loaded with inconsistencies (prawns not using their guns because they're just peaceful or workers, yet they kill and steal on a moments notice)

while pretty gory all the gore was in the top left corner of the screen while the camera was spun like it was at the end of a firetruck water hose. the last half was just transformers 2: electric boogaloo

weak mock action documentary was weak

I'll probably like it even though I get tired of the 'humans are so evil, fap fap fap' stuff

Now we have even more proof that the film was good. C-zom thinks it's bad!

That was the point! It's shaken because *gasp* it's a mock amateur-ish documentary and people aren't supposed to operate the camera like robots.

They don't kill that much...

Also, petty thefts aren't going to get you the death penalty, trying to rally one million people (that are pretty useless) together and then fighting a planet of 6 billion seems a bit absurd. If the aliens had used their weapons I'm pretty sure all of them would have been blasted to hell and back. Moreover, workers did not know how to operate the weapons that well so that's another (important) disadvantage.

Although I do agree that the last Act was a bit too much action, but hey, I'm not complaining!

well then "the point" was pretty stupid. Same with Cloverfield, same with [REC], same with Bourne. It does not work to make your movie like a youtube cellphone video.

The citizens were complaining of murder, theft, rape, weapon rings and mores before they moved them out of the city and into D9. In there it just got worse among the native african criminal rings. My point is if they're just mindless workers who follow orders, they're pretty damn smart. Movie is full of inconsistency.

Then how come the (mining ship) according to the directors, was full of guns, fucking millions of them? The movie is just full of holes, has a cell phone camera and didn't hold my interest. At all.

I went and watched this again today, with Arsenal.

And C-zom, you are looking for holes which is why you are finding them. If they made everything make perfect sense and totally logical the movie would have been about a week long.

I saw it the other day, and I loved it. It obviously wasn't perfect, but I really enjoyed it. When my brother saw it he hated it and thought the main guy was horrible, the action was lame, the beginning was boring etc.

I think the movie is a love-hate sort of thing, with very little middle ground.
