Title: I'm listening to classical music
Post by: Thunder Strike on May 05, 2010, 03:37:13 am
I never used to like any classical music, I used to like angry bands like Slipknot.
I mellowed out in my music taste in my late teens and started to like rock/alternative etc.
Muse is my favourite band now and they have some classical bits in their music, which lead me to look up Frederic Chopin - Nocturne In E Flat Major, Op.9 No.2 which I have been listening to over and over for the past few hours.

Am I getting old now?

If you like Chopin, I am guessing that you enjoy math!  He was very technical and wrote some great stuff!

Math bores the hell out of me, but I am good at it.

No worries. I love classical music, techno and rock.

... But I really enjoy Physics and Math (even though it's boring in school), playing with numbers and equations does have a certain fun factor - admit it.  :D

I was listening to medieval radio, dont let the name fool you, its just CALLED medieval, the music will create shockwaves if you have good enough speakers,
point is, right after that, i listened to celtic melt and my collection of old classics, clair de lune etc.

Indeed, its always nice to fall asleep while listening to some of the classics, especially piano and flute imo.

I liked to listen to classical when I was studying.  Good to drown everything else out without getting invested in the lyrics.  But then again, I use Rommstein for the same thing.

classic is always good for read "boring books" (standard school textbook)

though i usually prefer pop, rock, and metal for any other purpose (hanging around in first-person-shooters)

I occasionally study with Slipknot playing in the background...
I am yet to fail any exam

Huh, I can't concentrate with Heavy Metal in the background. First of all it makes me want to punch something, and second it feels like I'm getting raped in the ear by someone.

Personally though, I listen to all kinds of techno while studying (except hardstyle), it sooths me ;D

I haven't ever really dabbled into classical music, its not my taste, nor do I fit into the elitest crowd that mostly surrounds the genre. Song titles that go into tune and timing for two sentences have a special place in hell for me.

I spend all my time listening to a wide range of music but Classical never shows up. Metal of all kinds one second, alt rock the next, jazz the next, blues the next, progressive (metal or rock) the next...

Today I've had an itching for Daft Punk.

You need to start with the harder classical stuff, and then work you way into it.  Maybe start with Metallica - S&M as a transition, them switch to Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries.  Next move onto some Grieg - In the Hall of the Mountain King.

As much as I hate to advocate a Time Life product, this (http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/6840639/a/Time+Life+Presents:+Classical+Thunder.htm) was a hell of a collection.

Best piece of classical I've heard in a long time.
