I am stick of people crying about student loan interest rates going up, to a whole 6.8%. When I graduated interest rates on Stafford loans was somewhere north of 9%. When rates dropped into the 6's people were lining up to consolidate and lock in those rates because rates had not been that low since the 70's.
BTW, it's only subsidized Stafford loans which are going up. Unsubsidized loans were already at 6.8% That's right, the loans the gov are giving to you interest free until you start repayment.
And now you whiny fucks want your student loan debt forgiven? Why, because that 5 year degree in philosophy doesn't qualify you to work as at Starbucks? Well fuck you very much. I've been paying down my debt for better than 10 years, and have another 10 to go. During that time I've been unemployed twice. I've had to put my loans into forbearance and modified the payment terms to interest only for a couple years. But rather than actually make good on your commitments, you'd rather just sit on your ass on Wall St begging for a handout. What ever happened to personal responsibility?

This sounds interesting. I wish I knew what was going on, but I am so isolated from the world it's sad.
I agree with you though, Jenne. I hate seeing students abuse the fact that they get very generous handouts, complain about them the whole time they receive them and then proceed not to pay the balance back in the future. I'm a student, and don't get me wrong, the government is very kind to me, but I feel like I am one of the few who will actually pay back my loan in full.

Student loans? Oh right, people actually get those. I just got the government and others to pay for my schooling. Student loans are for people who clearly didn't qualify for full ride, and therefore deserve their loans payments.

Sorry, not everyone has rich parents.

Gotta love interest free student loans.

I worked 40 hours a week through school, and took twice as long to complete my degree. When I was finished, I didn't have any debt. I basically paid as I went, and took a full year off to build up funds again as I fell behind. I hate debt. The opportunity cost was starting my career a few years late, but I would have it no other way, and when I was done, I was cut like a stone from 6 + 4 (did the same for college) years of hard-working poverty. The degree was meaningless in the end, but the experience was worth its weight in gold.

Can't tell if troll, or just retarded...

I don't think he said he had rich parents; he stated instead that he's smart enough to get a full ride, so really the issue should be that he just called you all stupid, not poor.

And the fact that you didn't get it suggests that he was right. Add that to the fact that you are poor, and good luck making use of that diploma.

heh.
I come from a very poor background, so definitely not rich parents. But yes, I am a bad troll, but sometimes I try anyway. Point being, all of my schooling is payed for by scholarships, some from the government, some from the university, etc. Loans suck.

The best way to avoid paying for college is to be dirt poor. You can go just about anywhere damn near free. The only thing better is being dirt poor, of some poor oppressed minority, a woman, and have good grades.

Native American is a good choice

Oh yeah, and BTW, you can avoid this rate increase by simply consolidating your loans. Many lenders will do this for basically nothing, and you get a fixed rate at the weighted avg of your existing loads. Loan rates only change once a year on July 1. The consolidation process usually takes 30 days, so you should easily have enough time after they announce the rate change to decide to consolidate or not. This year, clearly you know it's going up, so no reason not to do it now. When I did my consolidation, Sallie Mae even told me that if I waited until June, they would give me the better of the two rates (current or the coming change). As it was rates kept coming down and I didn't consolidate until a few years later.

I'm not from rich parents either. I EARNED the MGIB I have through the Army, and I take the very minimum of Student Aid Offered. I believe you should work for something you want/need, not just have it handed to you.

Apo, not everyone is literally willing to kill for an education, but no matter how you get aid, there is no crime more honourable than stealing a book.
