My rig:
Pentium D 820 2.8 GHz (Wussy processor.)
3GB DDR2 RAM
228GB Sata HDD 7200RPM
Radeon x1600 pro 512MB
350w gay power supply.
D945GCZ Mobo
So. A while ago I asked my parents for a 2GB RAM upgrade. Bought it from Crucial, did the research myself, etc. Now, here's my question. The upgrade 2GB speed is PC2-5300 RAM. My old 1GB is PC2-4300 RAM. I wanted to remove the old 1GB, but they refused. Saying you, "Add to RAM, don't take away." Yeah. When I was asleep my Mom installed it on her own, and didn't tell me. She installed it like this:
Slot 1: 1GB PC2-5300
Slot 2: 512MB PC2-4300
Slot 3: 1GB PC2-5300
Slot 4: 512MB PC2-4300
Thats bad, right? Shouldn't both 512MB sticks be next to each other and same for the 1GB sticks? Also, mixing ram speeds logically makes the PC2-5300 RAM slow down, correct? =/ I'm 99% sure I'm right, and they don't believe me.

If you absolutely fucking need 3GB, then leave it the way she has it now (her > you, in this case). If you only need 2GB, tell her to fuck off and put the two faster ones in slots 1 and 3.

It should statically run faster with only the faster ram. I would say mess around with it yourself and dont tell your parent you are doing that.
Also I believe that is the right way to put it in.
