If I understand it right, they can use aggressive force on Iran at any time.

Fail

Glad to see the Democrats grew a backbone and are finally putting an end to Bush's warmongering!
O WAIT
Now, I consider myself fairly moderate in regards to the Middle East - I think withdrawing from Iraq without finding some sort of a solution or restoring a modicum of peace would be incredibly dumb, but this is just fucking disgusting. The Democrats could have blocked this if they wanted to, but they didn't. Maybe the Onion article about the U.S. withdrawing from Iraq through Iran won't be so farcical after all...
Also, Hilary Clinton's dead to me. I'm not seeing her as having voted against this amendment or not voted. Not that I was a big fan of her in the first place.
-
Democrats or republicans, in the government they're all the same: Greedy bastards who don't care.
We should withdraw from Iraq but leave a security force for the government and of course a government to protect. Let them deal with their own terrorists. But this Iran business is disgusting as Joker said. We're going to hell in a handbag if they think we can take on a billion suicidial arabs.
-
Actually, few people would be happier than the Arabs if we took out Iran.
-
Wow, thanks for posting, this is rather odd...
Those darn "Blue Dog Democrats" is who I'm blaming. I thought the Dem. controlled both houses of congress now, I guess by name, not by ideals.
Very interesting...
-
Kind of hard to believe that these people "represent" us.
That's it, I'm moving to Canada.
-
Wow, I totally missed that...
-
Well, people are going to be EXTREMELY pissed about this, so I imagine it'll recieve a lot of protest, more than anything else in about ten years.
If it's unpopular enough, they're going to have to remove it, or we'll all just riot.
-
Yes, we all know how well protests work. Remember how George W. Bush was going to invade Iraq, but then the largest protests the world had ever seen made him change his mind?
-
Exactly. They'll do what they want, and what they want is to kick Iran's ass. <_< Them flaunting their military via parades and us swimming up their asses in battleships outside their country is just a standoff. And we appearently took the bait and now we're gonna attack, and we will lose. Ah well.
-
I don't see us losing the fight, but I don't see us occupying the country for an extended period of time.
There would just be no way, not with the way terrorists and extremists work... I can see us totally crushing whatever Iran has to offer, but there would be no way to bring it all the way to its knees, just like we have yet to bring Iraq to its knees.
-
we wouldn't militarily lose a war with iran, but it would cause global chaos. especially if israel and syria get involved.
people will be angry when they see this, but nobody's going to care a week from now. for some reason, nobody can remember last week's news.
so, who wants to come to britain to avoid the draft?

The Michigan government is going to hell
Fixed.
we're on the verge of a partial government shut down...

I love being a canadian.

America does really suck. It really does.
Beat Iran? After we blitzed Iraq, bombed the living shit out of every inch of the country during the first year, carpet bombed the hell out of every building and sent in what was it... fourty thousand marines? We still lost. And Iraq has no military anymore, its just a bunch of towel heads with bombs on their backs. Next fight will be against a bunch of unified towel heads with a strong military and one scary as hell leader, with huge missiles and tanks. @_@ Its gonna be one hell of a fight if we couldn't beat Iraq.
-
Wow, just read about the Michigan thing... That's crazy.
-
No, we said beat Iraq militarily, silly goose.
-
We didn't lose against Iraq.
And, if we get in real danger, we have 500 nukes versus their half a nuke.
-
Blowing up Iran will in turn radiate and our annihilate Oman, Yemen, Iraq, Syria and god knows what else. >_> We won't do that.

This is the USA we're talkin about here. We aren't above nuking several countries so we stay alive a bit longer.
-
This ends in Armageddon.
-
Three things:
1. wethepeople: We have lost Iraq, but not for the reasons you've stated. You say we've lost "to a bunch of towel-heads with bombs on their backs." This is true too, but that's because it's an insurgency. There are no big battles, only small skirmishes, only small bombimgs. If we fought Iran, it would be a different war, one we might do ok at.
2. In response to Damen: Empires fall.
3. In responsed to iron soldier: nuking Iran isn't gonna bring armageddon, who'd nuke back?

dont forget our "friends" in israel, pakistan, india, turkey, the uae, afghanistan, and saudi arabia. and all those "stan" countries (uzbekistan, turkmenistan, kyrgyzstan, etc.) oh, and RUSSIA. if radiation were to spread there, i dont think they'd be too pleased.
assuming we use lots of radiation. after all, chernobyl managed to spread from ukraine to all over western europe, and it got detected by the west when radiation in scotland was 1000x its normal level.

Look at it this way. We're currently involved in Afghanistan and Iraq. Iran would make the third Middle East country, after that, there is no going back. I'm a Christian (just a reason why I think so, no religious debate please) and getting so involved in this Muslim area of the world could very well lead to a universal Jihad and a religious-fueled war. We've all seen how nasty religiously fueled wars can get due to Zeal, and with today's technology, its going to reach a whole new level of nasty.
