well, as long as its not in an argumentative tone... (and im just bored right now)

i definitely agree with you about organized religion. as for the existence of a deity, as far as im concerned, there is nobody directing what i do. if there were, why would i be saying this, right? now, there are religious teachings that i find no problem with - the ones that acknowledge that if there is a god, he doesnt really do much (basically deism). also, there is the matter of the "creation" of the universe. yes i suppose its possible that an eternal being created the universe... but where did it come from? how is it any less logical to claim that  the universe is eternal like stephen hawking says?

when it comes down to it, i agree that we really dont know for certain. theres no good evidence either way for the existence or non-existence of a god. there is, however, good evidence against the god that is presented by major religions. of all the major religions, the only one i see as plausible is buddhism because it doesnt have a god.

no, i dont know "for sure". then again, you dont actually know anything for sure. for all we know, our senses are all wrong. nothing has ever really convinced me of the existence of a god, and the chances seem pretty slim of the most complicated solution being the correct solution (occams razor), so i do not concern myself with these things unless im bored late at night on a message board.

and i guess, from that and my other posts, you can pick out my definition of "atheist", which i think differs slightly from yours in that im not firmly grounded in a closed-minded environment. but i wouldnt call myself agnostic because i feel that there is no god that matches any definition of a god that i have ever heard.

mm venom. glad to see that you also see the elephant standing in the middle of every church, mosque, and temple.

but i already explained my position on arguing about religion in the other thread about jesus being a blasphemer. so go ahead and argue with all the religious folk. i will be happy with my own beliefs without trying to force them on others.

im not being "just" a god, im being the master of all of space-time. i can control any thing, any event, any timeline... and so forth. fire a gamma ray at me, and its energy will be harmlessly dispersed. then i will make you disintegrate.

i have better things to do than get caught in an argument which nobody will win. i just wanted to tell callofduty to bugger off b/c this is a public forum and you cant just impose your will on it (unless you are a mod i guess). and then i had to tell pielord that i would rather not be preached to when im just trying to play an online game.

everything that i would say can be found elsewhere online anyway, as i am not the only person in the world who has come up with good reasons to be an athiest, and there are countless websites with good reasons to be a christian too. in the unlikely event that i feel the need to convert, i will seek the information on my own, thanks.

have fun arguing your points!

dude everyone sins
but if you except jesus then you could sin all you want and still go to heaven but you should not

i didnt mention sin. i said appeasement. accepting the idea that there is a god (or that it had a son) somehow pleases it. i mean, why the hell would it care?

if everyone were to stop believing in gods the entire concept would disappear. i mean, look at the greek gods. you do realize that these gods were not "mythology" to the ancient greeks - they were religion. now that everyone has stopped believing in them, they no longer exist as gods, but instead as stories. you can say the same about the roman gods, norse gods, celtic gods, aztec gods, mayan gods... etc.

i find it amusing (in a depressing way) that missionaries from major religions go around spreading their crap to indigenous people. i wonder what the world would be like if the yanomamo or the azmat spread their religions around the world. after all, they have just as much credibility!

and when was the last time someone got damned?

do you even know what getting damned means? it would be when god (or one of his minions) banishes you to hell (or an equivalent) for some period of time (although christians say eternity... ouch) because of your actions on earth. the religions that use this scare tactic conveniently claims that it happens after death, so that it cant be disproven unless you can communicate with the dead.

I've actually never been depressed before... I'm a very positive person. The only time I was close to depressed was when I got me wisdom teeth pulled because that just wasn't fun.

dude that was like the best experience in my life. i got this awesome intravenous sedative (they offered these vary degrees of sedatives, and i took the strongest one b/c sedatives rock). then after it was over they gave me vicodin as a painkiller! plus, it turned out that they could only take out one tooth the first time b/c of insurance, so i went through the process twice. ahh i figure that if theyre going to prescribe me a controlled substance, i might as well enjoy it.

will someone please close this topic I really want to kill the person who started it in the first place
*I am a christian and my father is a pastor so yea I take great offense to all of this

lol first, this was started by an admin. second, you can express your opinion on the matter without demanding that it be closed. and isnt one of your commandments "thou shalt not kill"?

oh and just for the record im an atheist. the idea of some guy in the sky (or even a unifying spirit) having anything to do with our lives just seems preposterous to me. and the fear tactic of saying ill go to hell if i refuse to appease this guiding force thing by following some random archaic code of laws is just crazy. seriously, youd think an all-knowing creator would have something better to do than go around damning his creations if they fantasize about sex...
