Well i knew Rose Bowl was cuz i'm in Cali but he said Giants so i was slightly confused. Mighta been a weird Coaches name lol wtf is a zook?

The Illini (which was the mascot,) were a native tribe that lived in the area. When the NCAA dropped their ridiculious decree that no native mascots were acceptable (unless you're FSU,) UI dropped mascots period. The Fighting Zooks is just a lulzy unofficial mascot.

Cuz teams had Native American Mascots called Savages and so on and the tribes took offense to that which i agree w/.

Names like Savages and Redskins might get some offense from natives, but the far majority of them are on record saying that they actually liked the fact that their nations were being kept alive and represented by the colleges.

Basically, it's overbearing political correctness that went to far.

Thanks, I didn't really realize that the names of the tribes of the Native Americans were used. Well, if they feel offended, it's okay to prohibite using their names. But overbearing political correctness is usually the main reason for things like that, like DrunkWino already said.
