Also SirCain, that's a life lesson right there. Most people have irrational fear and will stand down if you challenge them. No matter the age.
Of course, there are obvious areas where this doesn't apply. Authority figures do not feel threatened until it's clear you don't give a damn about their assumed authority and will kick their ass anyway.
Also, for you peaceniks and hippies and whatnot, might makes right. Look at the world around you, look at our history. It's entirely human. Holding on to illusions of civility or the "we're not barbarians" defence is disregarding the instincts you were born with. Instincts that no one really stops following.
I'm not advocating that people should beat each other up all the time. However, more often than people would like to admit, it's the sensible choice. In this case, one pack member challenged the other pack member's standing, but when the challenge was met it chickened out. Standings are now clearer in the pack, causing less tension. Situation success!
